PERIPERA MATTE BLUR TINT REVIEW
KATHERINE SPOWART on MARCH 23, 2020
Peripera makes some of my favorite lip products on the market, both in the realms of K-beauty and on the international stage. I will continually repurchase their Airy Ink Velvet lipsticks because they’re the best matte formulas I’ve ever tried. When I recently saw the emergence of the Peripera Matte Blur Tints, at only $10.48 on Jolse, I was immediately curious as to how they compared to my beloved Airy Ink Velvets. The new lipsticks are described as “highly concentrated coloring pigments” with a “self blurring effect”. After several testing sessions, I have thoughts to share.
There are 10 different shades ranging from orange to dusty pink to deep bold red. Here’s an image of the shades available:
I really like the options! I’ve been testing out #8 the Hush Pink Beige. The pigmentation is slightly bolder than the Airy Ink Velvets but certainly not as intense as a generic matte lipstick. I actually prefer this slight sheerness because it gives the product more versatility- I can lightly color my lips for work or pack on the pigment for a bolder pop of lipstick for events.
The texture reflects classic Peripera- it’s fluffy and extremely light. It’s this texture that continually draws me back to the Peripera matte options. I’d say the Matte Blur texture is more dry and powdery than the Airy Ink Velvet texture, but still easily sheered out and smoothly applied. The lightweight formulas do not dry out my lips when I’m wearing them and they enable me to apply either a smudged “blurred” lip or an intense, defined matte lip. The product can also be easily reapplied if necessary because it’s not stuck to the lips and doesn’t stain the lips unevenly as many matte lipsticks do.
The applicator is long and flat. It’s ok to initially apply the product to lips, but because the texture is quite fluffy and dry, I personally just pat some color on the center of my lips then blend out with a finger. This method is a little messier but is a better way to achieve a smooth, even lip with these formulas. You can end up with too much product on your lip (in my opinion) if you only use the applicator.
The longevity is ok. It lasts several hours before starting to fade, but there is a noticeable color stain on lips that lasts after the fading. Although the longevity is not as long as other matte products, it does fade evenly and doesn’t dry out the lips, meaning that reapplication is not a problem.
I’ve really been enjoying my Matte Blur Tint! I can use it for almost any event which I think makes it a really great purchase and I’ve been continually reaching for it both for daytime and evening. The #8 shade is perfect for summer but I’d definitely be interested in trying more colors from the range.
The main thing I love about the Peripera mattes, in general, is how they almost airbrush the lips compared to other matte products which often settle into lines. Ultimately, I still find the Airy Ink Velvet formula more comfortable because it’s slightly more emollient, but if you want a bolder, more matte look, the Blur Tint line may be more your style. The nice thing about the Peripera lip products is that even if you try one and it’s not your favorite, you likely have only spent around $10 anyway. These fun lip products are affordable, easy to wear, comfortable, and I’d recommend them to any lipstick beginner or lipstick lover!
